Which wood species to choose for wall cladding?

Wood species are classified based on their use and purpose. These classes are governed by the standard EN 350-2 and NF EN 335-14. All the wood species used by Ardemo come from sustainably managed forests. All our products are manufactured in Western France to ensure very high quality.

Durability classes

The durability classes of wood species correspond to the wood’s resistance to biological risks.

Impregnability classes

The impregnability classes determine how easily the wood can be impregnated. The wood species are classified on a scale from 1 to 4. Thus, a class 1 wood will be very impregnable and can be fully penetrated with a preservation treatment. On the contrary, a class 4 wood will not be impregnable and cannot receive a preservation treatment.

Use classes

The use classes are determined by the risks of exposure to moisture. Each class corresponds to a level of resistance, whether through treatment or natural durability.

For your interior wooden partitions: prioritize wood species in use class 1. Outside of humid rooms, there are no restrictions, as all wood species will have excellent durability if not exposed to moisture. You can choose wood species like ash, fir, walnut, or beech. For a wet room: yes, the combination of wood and water is possible! It is even very conducive to creating a natural, pleasant, and cozy ambiance. Prioritize wood species in use class 2. For a humid room: we recommend choosing solid oak, which is highly water-resistant. You can also opt for tropical woods such as bamboo or teak.
